Gastric/Enteric-Soluble Pharmaceutical Film Coating
POLYACRYLIC RESIN III

Polyacrylic Resin III is an anionic copolymer of methacrylic acid and methyl methacrylate. By forming alkali salts, it becomes soluble in neutral to weakly alkaline media, thereby providing an enteric coating film that dissolves in intestinal fluid at a pH above 7.0.

Film-forming properties

Polyacrylic Resin III forms a colorless, transparent film. Plasticizers may be added to reduce brittleness. The film is insoluble in water, buffer solutions with a pH below 7.0, and both natural and simulated gastric fluid; however, it is soluble in neutral to weakly alkaline media and in the intestinal tract where the pH exceeds 7.0.

Product Applications
Coating for tablets and pills:
  • Moisture and light protection; maintains drug stability in tropical climates
  • Gastric acid resistance; enables release at pH 6.0- 6.8 when combined with polyacrylic resin II
  • Isolates hygroscopic and porous tablet cores
  • Film coating for lozenges and throat pastilles
  • Coating for granules, powders, and pellets:
  • Gastric acid resistance; delays release until the colon
  • Isolates incompatible ingredients
  • Enhances drug stability
  • Resin granulation; serves as a matrix material
  • Retards drug release
